THE JOURNEY

WITH LOVE

Meet Dr. Noeréna, the compassionate heart behind The Journey With Love™

Noeréna Abookire holds a Ph.D. from New York University’s School of Education, Health, Nursing and Arts Professions. She has 25 years of personal recovery from a variety of addictions; multiple advanced degrees and certifications; and decades of working in the field of relapse prevention at the local, state and federal levels. As the lead instructor of trainers for Maryland’s Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, and a past National board member of the National Association for Prevention Professions and Advocates, Dr. Noeréna has been a consultant for the United States Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.

When facilitating groups in rehabilitation and treatment centers or presenting for professional Substance Use Disorder training organizations; universities and colleges; local, state and national and international conferences; Dr. Noeréna opens the hearts and minds of professionals by sharing her experience that relapse can be avoided even in the most stressful times.

A History of The Journey With Love

The Journey With Love was born of the the most challenging experience Dr. Noeréna has ever faced: her beloved husband, Ray Whitfield, came home from a routine doctor appointment and said he had 3 – 6 months to live. Her training in 12 step recovery and earth-based spiritual healing kicked in. They were determined to make it be a Journey With Love rather than a journey with fear – they could be afraid, but not lead with that fear as they traveled together from his diagnosis to his death. That positive transformation is how the Journey With Love began.

As a result, the Journey With Love is dedicated to creating and distributing advanced online relapse prevention resources and education focusing on grief and loss for addicts in recovery and professionals working in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and relapse prevention.

Dr. Noeréna’s advanced approach to relapse prevention emphasizes the forceful power of grief as a strong, under addressed, and often unnoticed incentive for relapse.
